Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine started in 1969 and billed itself as “intimate conversations between the world’s most creative people.” Editor Bob Colacello said the magazine was to be a “reflection of Andy’s social life…We wanted every issue of Interview to be like a great dinner party, where you have a grande dame, an important political figure, a rock star, an up-and-coming actress, and some model.”
Richard Bernstein (American, 1931–2002) started working with the magazine in 1972 and illustrated the covers until 1989, his signature airbrush style gave Interview its legendary look for 189 covers.
