Author: Kauffer, E. McKnight.

Format: Autograph letter signed to Brunel and dated “June 9, 1939”, on printed “EKK” letterhead, “141 Swan Court, London”, 1p, 27.4 x 19.1cm.

Text reads “My dear Brunel, I had hopes to see your play this week – but I have not been well enough – so I have delayed writing to thank you for the invitation. I so hope to go next week if my dizzy spells are gone. I wish your play every success for I am sure that it is unusual and very worth while seeing. My best wishes and to Mrs Brunel too – Yours, E. McKnight Kauffer.”

Edward McKnight Kauffer (American, 1890–1954) was a graphic designer and artist who spent most of his life working in the UK, most famously on posters for the London Underground. The letter likely refers to Adrian Brunel’s (English, 1892–1958) play Only Yesterday.
