Text includes “Mr Joseph Taylor will not be forgotten by old residents of Orange. He was a prominent citizen in the ‘flush’ times, when Lucknow Gold mines, the Icely and Cadia copper mines, and the Parkes diggings were in a flourishing state…As protectionists we are glad to mention that Mr Taylor is now in Orange as representative of the Colonial industry of brush manufacturing which, in conjunction with his brother, he has been carrying on for many years successfully in Sydney. Though he protests against the ad valorem duty upon raw material, he says he can still hold his own against foreign competition and could do better if he had a little more protection against the imported article.”

Mr Joseph Taylor was the brother of Samuel Taylor, who is listed in Sands Sydney Directory 1886, p773, as “Taylor, Samuel. Brush manufacturer and general importer, 5-7 Queen’s place; p.r., 100 Pyrmont Bridge Road, Glebe.”
